Мета вивчення дисципліни: The aim of the descipline is to formulate communicative competence to let students communicate in well-known situations that may occur in in general language context
Завдання: General competences: GC5 - the ability to operate in international environment GC6 - the ability to generate new ideas (creativity) GC7 - the ability to apply knowledge in practice GC8 - abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis GC9 - the ability to use information and communicatio technologies GC11 - the ability to communicate in a foreign language GC12 - to ability to search, process and analyze information from different sources GC14 - interpersonal interaction and respect for cultural diversity GC15 - the ability to work individually and in a team. Professional competences: - linguistic, which represents the level of knowledge of language norms and the ability to demonstrate language skills; - socio-linguistic, which presupposes the ability of a learner to produce and identify language styles according to a particular communicative situation; - pragmatic, which shows the ability to use acquired knowledge to influence an interlocutor while communicating in a foreign language.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the study learners are expected to be able to: • maintain a conversation on familiar topics, expressing and exchanging opinions and factual information on everyday events; • demonstrate an understanding of clear and simple notices, including details on warning, announcements and instructions; • write e-mails for educational purposes conveying simple straightforward information of immediate relevance /close to the academic environment and everyday life; • write forum posts and comments, expressing their own opinion and commenting on other opinions, agreeing/disagreeing on what can be found in social media and virtual learning environment; • deal with factual/non-factual, important and less important information in the texts; - guess the meaning of unfamiliar words in the context; - be able to comprehend general and specific information from audio/video sources in typical life situations; - identify the author's idea in authentic literary sources according to the identified topics; - be able to interact with the groupmates and work in teams. LR10 - to communicate native language and a foreign language fluently and be able to hold professional and general discussion and compile analytical and professional documentation; LR12 - be able to translate and interpret into and from a foreign language; LR14 - use modern information technologies, specilised software, data bases and information systems to optimize learning a foreign language.

Summary of the subject: Тhe curriculum for the descipline is aimed at international relations students who possess level A1-B2 according to the general European recommendations on learning and teaching modern languages. At the end of the course students are supposed to acquire level B1+ which is an intermediary one between lower-intermediate and upper-intermadiate levels. The course is practically oriented and thus enables students to get communicative competence in a foreign language. Learning process is based on integration of language knowledge and skills in situational context according to a major students have chosen. Selfstuding and individual studying are considered to be an essential part of the curriculum.

Assessment methods and criteria: Assessment methods: - oral and direct questioning; - questioning in writing; - random oral questioning; - presentations during practical classes; - tests; - activity assessment; - evaluation of proposals, original decisions, suggestions, etc. Credit - Oral component - Written test

Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100-88 points - certified with an “excellent” grade - High level: the student demonstrates an in-depth mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline, systematic knowledge, skills and abilities of their practical application. The mastered knowledge, skills and abilities provide the ability to independently formulate goals and organize learning activities, search and find solutions in non-standard, atypical educational and professional situations. The applicant demonstrates the ability to make generalizations based on critical analysis of factual material, ideas, theories and concepts, to formulate conclusions based on them. His/her activity is based on interest and motivation for self-development, continuous professional development, independent research activities, implemented with the support and guidance of the teacher. 87-71 points - certified with a grade of “good” - Sufficient level: involves mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline at an advanced level, conscious use of knowledge, skills and abilities to reveal the essence of the issue. Possession of a partially structured set of knowledge provides the ability to apply it in familiar educational and professional situations. Aware of the specifics of tasks and learning situations, the student demonstrates the ability to search for and choose their solution according to the given sample, to argue for the use of a particular method of solving the problem. Their activities are based on interest and motivation for self-development and continuous professional development. 70-50 points - certified with a grade of “satisfactory” - Satisfactory level: outlines the mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline at the average level, partial awareness of educational and professional tasks, problems and situations, knowledge of ways to solve typical problems and tasks. The applicant demonstrates an average level of skills and abilities to apply knowledge in practice, and solving problems requires assistance, support from a model. The basis of learning activities is situational and heuristic, dominated by motives of duty, unconscious use of opportunities for self-development. 49-00 points - certified with a grade of “unsatisfactory” - Unsatisfactory level: indicates an elementary mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline, a general understanding of the content of the educational material, partial use of knowledge, skills and abilities. The basis of learning activities is situational and pragmatic interest.
