Abstract: At the current stage, the relevance of the import of auto parts for Ukraine is exceptionally high and is determined by a number of both traditional economic factors and unique challenges associated with the military conflict and reconstruction. Imports are a critical element in keeping civil and commercial transport, as well as vehicles involved in logistics, volunteering and reconstruction, in working order. Following significant fleet losses and infrastructure destruction, an uninterrupted supply of spare parts is vital for: - restoration of damaged cars - the need for body parts, engines and electronic units that were damaged as a result of hostilities; - agricultural machinery - provision of repair of special machinery to support food security; - logistics chains - maintenance of cargo transport, which ensures the delivery of critically important goods and humanitarian aid. The Ukrainian car fleet largely consists of cars of foreign production (European, Asian and American brands). The domestic industry is unable to provide either the assortment or technological compliance of the necessary components. Modern cars require the import of complex electronic systems, safety systems and units manufactured to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards. Imported original spare parts are a guarantee of reliability of repairs, which is especially important in conditions of increased load on transport. Despite the need to reduce dependence on imports, at the current stage it plays the role of a market stabilizer.Import supports the competition by offering both premium and budget quality analogues. Without imports, prices on the domestic market would rise sharply due to shortages. The main challenge is currency risk and logistics costs, which directly affect the final cost of repair and maintenance, worsening the financial condition of importing companies. Thus, the import of auto parts at the current stage is a strategic necessity that allows maintaining the viability of the country’s economy and transport system, although it requires parallel work on the diversification of supply sources and the development of domestic production in the long term. The sector of the automotive market of Ukraine, especially in terms of after-sales service, is critically dependent on import operations, since domestic production is not able to satisfy the entire range of demand for spare parts [1]. In the context of the globalization of the economy and the intensification of foreign trade, in particular with the countries of the European Union, the efficiency of the import of auto parts is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring the competitiveness of enterprises and supporting national economic growth [2]. However, this activity is burdened by numerous systemic problems, which are classified as customs-regulatory, financial-currency, and logistical-operational. Crisis upheavals and martial law add to the complications, which significantly increase the level of uncertainty and risks [3]. Import operations are the basis of the foreign economic activity of enterprises operating in the automobile market [2]. Spare parts are a specific product, the demand for which is determined not only by economic, but also by technical factors: the volume of the fleet in operation, its age structure and the quality of roads. The global automotive market is characterized by high competition and constant updating of the model range [2], which requires importers of auto parts to continuously systematize indicators and adapt to the dynamics of demand [4]. The efficiency of imports in this sector is a direct indicator of ensuring sustainable economic development of the country as a whole [4]. The lack of necessary components inevitably leads to the idleness of equipment, the growth of consumer costs and the fall of trust in suppliers, which emphasizes the substantive determination of the efficiency of import activities [5]. In this context, the import of auto parts is classified as a critically important factor that ensures both the functional and economic stability of the national motor vehicle complex.
